Who we are

Founded in 1741, the oldest hotel in Alessandria, situated in the heart of the Old Town, just a few metres from the Cathedral and Liberty Square. Thanks to its strategic position it makes for a ideal place to stay not only for business purposes but also for a stroll around the shops in the centre such as the famous hat Boutique, Borsalino. Today the hotel boasts 48 rooms tastefully decorated with all modern comforts, 2 meeting rooms and a “vermoutheria”, a vermouth cocktail-bar on the ground floor, the latter entirely restructured in 2014.

In the heart of the city

With a rich historical past, Alessandria was founded in 1168 between the two rivers Bormida and Tanaro. In the centre, a short distance from the hotel, is Palatium Vetus, the oldest seat of local government, looking onto Liberty Square, once facing the medieval Cathedral which was destroyed by Napoleon. The existing 18th century St Peter’s Cathedral, nearby, retains a bell tower second only in height to the “Torrazzo di Cremona” . Looking out onto Liberty Square is Palazzo Ghilini (seat of the Prefecture) designed in 1732. To one side there is “Palazzo Cuttica di Cassine” (the home of the Music Conservatory), with its main floor decorated in rococo style, with 16th century paintings and embellished with large impressive mirrors; inside there is a museum, part of the group of Civil Museums. The Santa Maria del Carmine church (14th Century) has a gothic facade and sides in brickwork: the inside is unusual with its “sala a gradinatura” (hall with footholds) with a crossvault supported by cruciform pillars and central poligonal apses. For those keen on modern art there are the sparkling mosaics by Gino Severini which decorate the facade of the Post and Telegraph Office. From Via San Giacomo della Vittoria, through the Galleria Guerci, in Liberty style, you arrive in the city’s commercial centre: Via San Lorenzo, dedicated to gastronomic excellence and Corso Roma, running parallel, with its fashion boutiques.
An audio guide which follows a route across the centre of Alessandria, passing through the most famous streets and visiting the most important buildings and churches.

The restaurant

From 2014 the direction of the restaurant I Due Buoi has been the responsibility of the Chef Andrea Ribaldone: the idea was to renew the restaurant business in Alessandria in one of the oldest eating places in the city with the aim to offer an emotional  gastronomic experience to its clientele.
